A supervisory team from the East Java Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS) conducted supervision and oversight for the accelerated field data collection of the 2026 Economic Census in Jombang Regency on Thursday (August 13, 2026). The activity involved four supervisors, with Amin Sani Kertiyasa serving as the team leader.
Amin explained that his team's presence was not merely for oversight but also to provide support and assistance to Field Data Collection Officers (PPL) and Field Verification Officers (PML) in completing data collection within designated Local Environment Units (SLS).
"As supervisors from BPS East Java, we are supporting and assisting with the accelerated field data collection for the 2026 Economic Census in Jombang Regency. We aim to contribute to the census's completion—covering households, business-specific buildings, SLS areas, and commercial or economic districts," said Amin.
He noted that the challenges encountered in the field were not unique to Jombang Regency but were also occurring in other regions. The primary obstacle is resistance or refusal by respondents to be interviewed or have their data collected. Additionally, in several SLS areas, officers encountered respondents who were absent because they were at work.
Amin highlighted that, under Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics, there are actually sanctions for individuals who refuse to provide data. However, he noted that these sanctions require more extensive public awareness campaigns and concrete enforcement—regarding both implementation and the fine amounts—which have not yet been strictly applied, leading many respondents to continue refusing.
"Beyond enforcing the regulations, another approach involves engaging with RT/RW (neighborhood/hamlet) administrators or respected local figures so that residents can be accompanied or informed in advance," he explained. Looking ahead, Amin hopes that the 2026 Economic Census in Jombang Regency will be completed on schedule—both in terms of coverage (encompassing all households and business premises willing to participate within the set deadline) and data quality (meeting the standards established by BPS).
